Whatcom Middle School Fire Video


Whatcom Middle School Fire, A Bellingham School District, where a reported fire the broke out about 1 a.m. Thursday at Whatcom Middle School in Bellingham burned until dawn. The magnitude of fire caused the roof and parts of the 106-year-old building to collapse.
It was considered that a strong wind fanned the flames. Bill Boyd, Fire Chief told The Bellingham Herald firefighters warned neighbors downwind to watch for firebrands.
Boyd further said that firefighters did a quick search of the school and found no one inside before they were forced to withdraw.
No word yet from the local authorities regarding on the real cause of the fire.
Tonya Rowe, School District spokeswoman said the building was undergoing a seismic retrofit.
Police Lt. Rick Sucee said roofers were seen welding as late as 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Was it due to welding?
The district is looking for other class space for the 580 students as a replacement. What do you think really caused the big fire?
